Sheila Van Duyne is the owner of Van Duyne Law Group. Van Duyne graduated from Harvard University cum laude in 1984. She then obtained her J.D. from University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1987. Having practiced law throughout California and Nevada for the past 30 years, she brings trial experience, litigation experience, and knowledge of all aspects of pre-trial discovery and motion work to her practice. Van Duyne has litigated large scale construction defect cases and many failure to disclose real estate cases here in Nevada.
In 2005 she became active in running a 1200 member Homeowners Association as a board member and as a president. After that experience she began to focus her practice on working with community associations as legal counsel.
She enjoys using the law to help people find peace and stability in the communities where they live. She has worked for the Courts as a settlement conference judge, arbitrator and a mediator. Currently she serves on two Nevada State Bar Committees.
She regularly assists her associations in interpreting and analyzing their Bylaws, CC&Rs, Rules and Regulations, and Policies. She drafts Board Resolutions, Commit- tee Charters and reviews contracts with vendors. She prepares opinion letters which help her Association Boards fulfill their duties to consult with professionals under the business judgment rule and often prepares complete restatements of an Association’s governing documents to bring them current with the law.
