Sheila Van Duyne is the owner of Van Duyne Law Group.  Van Duyne completed her undergraduate work at Harvard University where she graduated cum laude in 1984.  She then obtained her J.D.  from University of Santa Clara School of Law in 1987.  Having practiced law throughout California and Nevada for the past 25 years, she brings trial experience, litigation experience, and a familiarity with all aspects of pre-trial discovery as well as law and motion work. Van Duyne has extensive experience litigating large scale construction defect cases here in Nevada.  In 2005 she became active in running a 1200 member Homeowners Association as a board member and as a president.   After that experience she began to focus her practice on working with other local associations as legal counsel.  She enjoys the mix of legal analysis with helping people find peace, stability and resolution of their disputes in the communities where they live.   She has worked for the Courts as a settlement conference judge, arbitrator and a mediator.   Currently she works for the Nevada State Bar as a mediator.  Van Duyne brings an extensive civil litigation background to her practice, yet when it appears better to do so for her clients, she also brings an ability to fully evaluate a case and bring parties together in settlement.   She regularly assists her community associations in matters relating to interpreting and analyzing their Bylaws, CC&Rs, Rules and Regulations, Policies.  She also helps her Associations by drafting Board Resolutions, Committee Charters and by reviewing contracts with vendors.    She prepares opinion letters so as to help her Association Boards fulfill their duties to consult with professions under the business judgment rule and also often drafts complete restatements of an Associations’’ governing documents on the one hand or more minor collections or investment policies on the other hand.
